Note to readers. This post was written at the end of November, 2014 when Lollipop was first introduced to Nexus phones. In the time that’s passed, I’m sure almost all kinks have been ironed out and probably all Hebrew apps have now been adjusted to work on the new OS. Personally, I have no problems with Lollipop in Hebrew.
More than half of Israel’s cellphones run on the Android operating system. This week, Google (who own Android) began sending out the update to their latest operating system, Android 5 – known as Lollipop.
It was first rolled out to Google phones – starting with the Nexus 5. Most Android phones in Israel are Samsung – which will update later – but this post is relevant to them too.
I have a Nexus 5 and was reluctant to upgrade because I didn’t know if my Israeli/Hebrew apps would continue working. I didn’t want to find myself without Waze, Pango, Railway, or Banking apps.
I finally bit the bullet and updated two days ago.
I’m pleased to say that every app – including Hebrew – works perfectly. The only one I’m having trouble with is Words with Friends – which zynga have acknowledged as problematic on their Facebook page. (Since repaired – that works fine too now.)
So, when Android 5 is available for your phone, don’t worry about the Hebrew. Personally, I think it’s terrific – a great improvement on Android 4. Very smooth, very instinctive and pleasant on the eye. It lets me administer all my google accounts with ease. I haven’t experienced any of the bugs others have complained about. Highly recommended.
